Westerplatte & Gdansk Tour

It is assumed that the Second World War began on September the 1st when armoured battleship Schleswig-Holstein fired the first artillery shots at the Polish military transit storehouse at Westerplatte peninsula which was located at the entrance to the Port of Gdansk. Today it is a memorial site with ruins of blockhouses and barracks and huge monument raised to the memory of 128 heroic Polish soldiers under the command of Major Henryk Sucharski who held off for a full week against 3500 attacking German soldiers. Today, Westerplatte is a symbol of Polish courage and determination.

We offer private full day tour by train combined with visit in Gdansk.

Tour schedule:

1. hotel pick up in the morning (exact time depends on train schedule),
2. 3,5h journey from Warsaw to Gdansk,
3. arrival in Gdansk and meeting local private guide in chosen language at the train platform,
4. 35 minutes drive to Westerplatte by comfortable car accompanied by our local guide,
5. 2h of sightseeing of Westerplatte memorial site

During the visit you will see:

• ‘Fort’ building – made from concrete, former part of the Prussian coastal fortification system
• Passenger ships marina – bombardment of area started here,
• The shelter and observation tower – observation point and probably the only safe place during the battle,
• Tank T-34 – introduced in 1940, Soviet medium tank, famous for using against Operation Barbarossa
• Cemetery of the Defenders- on the spot of non-existing Guardhouse No. 5.
• Guardhouse No. 1 – the place of the military defense command,
• Ruins of New Barracks – rooms like power plant, ammunition warehouse, kitchen, telephone booth were located here,
• Remains of ‘Non-commissioned officers’ villa’ – Guardhouse No. 3.
• The Monument of the Defenders of the Coast

6. return to Gdansk,
7. free time in one of the most popular Polish cities – Gdansk, perfect for lunch or lonely walk (exact time depends on train schedule but we can choose other train connection, dependly on your needs)
8. reaching railway station on your own,
9. 3,5h return journey to Warsaw,
10. after arrival in Warsaw, meeting the driver and transfer to the hotel
